In 1993 the world was introduced to Roshal Archive, or RAR – a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error recovery and file spanning. It was developed by Russian software engineer, Eugene Lazarevich Roshal, but the copyright for the file format is held by his brother Alexander. Two years later, we got WinRAR - a file archiver utility for Windows, which would be used to create and view archives in RAR or ZIP file formats, and also unpack a whole bunch of other archive file formats. WinRAR is distributed as a ''try before you buy'' software. According to the terms of use, you can use it for free during a 40 day trial period, after which you are required to buy a license. However, if you ever used WinRAR, you know that you can continue using it for free even after the 40 day trial period ends. Quick disclaimer: This is not a sponsored video! 1. Thanks CHM Tech for explaining our business model in such an amusing and educational way! And of course thanks for purchasing the only license we ever sold, we are still celebrating it ;-)
  2. winrar is the best
  3. Winrawr XD
  4. I just use librar and ark
  5. I mean, I like the software so I purchased it. I saw the message saying that it's a trial version like maybe 3 times? I don't care that I didn't actually have to buy it, I have never regretted buying a license to use it, and as someone who just moved into an apartment from homelessness in the past couple years, and who doesn't have a job, that's not something I can often say.
  6. After 20 years, I'm actually considering buying winrar.
  7. whenever i first heard about winrar, i was also told about 7zip and that i would have to buy winrar after the trial ended.

knowing that my family would never pay for me to use a program like that i downloaded 7zip instead, and i continue to use it to this day
  8. 7zip
  9. It was bad to see how you wasted money on free software.
  10. WinRawr XD AmIRight
  11. use peazip...open-source and better :D
  12. I'll be honest, i'm glad I don't have to feel quilty for not buying a licence
  13. MakeMKV is kind of like this too. The trial codes change from time to time but the free trial never goes away.
  14. So.. I help WinRar get money by downloading apps in WinRar files? The guilt has faded XD And about that pop up message that it always shows? It's not even a problem, because first.. I'm only using the program for free and it's been SO MANY YEARS that I've been using WinRar. Second, Ads are worse than this.
  15. I've been using 7-Zip since 15 years now, it compresses better than RAR, is faster, and free. Why use Win RAR when you can have better for free, people make no sense sometimes...
  16. You answered the question in the first 2 minuets
  17. this proves that 40=INFINITY
  18. Did you actually quote something from Softonic ? wtf
  19. Wouldn't it be so funny if at some point they changed all the downloaded versions of WinRar of people who didn't buy a license into some malware Trojan virus?
  20. Why do people use WinRAR when 7zip exists?
